Tricky. Not sure this gets close enough to being about *war* but the idea is solid. Maybe add a clause with the word "war" in it, and you'll be on your way.

I think you need to start by saying, straight out, how the authors feel about war.
If I were to ask SCrane, hey, what do you think about war? What would be the first thing he would say?
Would it really be, "war makes men have the urge to be heroic"? I think that would certainly be part of it, but probably not the most important part of his answer.
